Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse to join our dynamic interventional cardiology team at Froedtert & MCW. This pivotal role focuses on providing expert nursing care during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, with a strong emphasis on technical assistance, equipment management, and meticulous patient monitoring. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess strong critical thinking skills, and be comfortable with on-call responsibilities to ensure 24/7 coverage for emergent cases. This is an on-site position at our state-of-the-art facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where you will contribute to life-saving interventions and exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including comprehensive assessment, patient education, and establishment of IV access.
- Assist physicians during complex procedures by expertly managing equipment, administering medications, and continuously monitoring patient hemodynamics and vital signs.
- Operate and troubleshoot a variety of advanced Cath Lab equipment, including but not limited to hemodynamic monitoring systems, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), fractional flow reserve (FFR) devices, and intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP).
- Provide vigilant post-procedure care, meticulously monitoring for complications, and ensuring optimal patient stability and recovery.
- Respond effectively and rapidly to emergent situations within the Cath Lab, demonstrating quick decision-making and advanced cardiac life support skills.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records and documentation in strict adherence to hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule, responding promptly to emergency call-backs within a specified timeframe.
- Collaborate seamlessly with cardiologists, cardiovascular technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of patient outcomes.
- Ensure a sterile environment and rigorous adherence to all infection control protocols and best practices.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin.
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience, preferably in Critical Care, Emergency Department, or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
- Strong technical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting complex medical equipment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a high-stress, fast-paced clinical environment.
- Unwavering commitment to patient safety and the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Previous experience specifically within a Cardiac Catheterization Lab or Interventional Radiology setting.
- Specialty certification such as Cardiac Vascular Nurse (CVN) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
