Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Thrift / Charity Shop Sorting Assistant to join our backroom team in Oakland, CA. This flexible, part-time role is crucial to our operations, ensuring that donated goods are processed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for sorting, cleaning, pricing, and preparing items for the sales floor, directly contributing to our mission of helping individuals achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and unload donations from various sources.
  • Sort donated items into categories such as clothing, household goods, electronics, books, etc.
  • Inspect items for quality, damage, and cleanliness, adhering to company standards.
  • Clean, repair, or prepare items as necessary for resale.
  • Price items accurately based on established guidelines and market value.
  • Tag and ticket items, ensuring they are ready for the sales floor.
  • Organize and store processed goods efficiently in the backroom.
  • Assist with moving items to the sales floor as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality items.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of product categories and brands.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse/backroom environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in retail, warehouse, or sorting environments.
  • Knowledge of vintage or collectible items.
  • Familiarity with various clothing brands and household goods.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
