Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Material Handler with a heavy industrial focus to join our team in Shively, Kentucky. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, and unloading of various freight materials, often heavy and oversized, within our busy distribution center. This position requires strict adherence to safety protocols, operation of industrial equipment, and strong attention to detail to ensure accurate freight handling and timely delivery preparation. Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload freight using appropriate material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.), prioritizing heavy and industrial-grade items.
- Inspect freight for damage and verify counts against shipping documents, accurately noting any discrepancies.
- Organize and stack freight in designated areas, ensuring optimal space utilization and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Operate powered industrial trucks (PIT) in a safe and efficient manner, completing daily equipment checks.
- Perform routine pre-shift and post-shift inspections of all material handling equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including HAZMAT regulations when applicable.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and drivers to coordinate freight movement.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety initiatives.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a heavy industrial, warehouse, or logistics environment.
- Proven ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Strong understanding and commitment to industrial safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy freight (up to 75 lbs regularly).
- Basic computer literacy for scanning and data entry.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in LTL freight or similar transportation industry.
- Forklift certification (OSHA-compliant).
- Experience with freight scanning and tracking systems.
- Knowledge of HAZMAT handling procedures.
