Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Backend Shopify Developer with a strong focus on API development and integration to join our dynamic e-commerce team in Spruce Grove, Alberta. In this hybrid role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend solutions that power our Shopify Plus storefront and its ecosystem. You will work on critical integrations with third-party systems, custom app development, and ensuring the scalability and performance of our backend infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Shopify’s API, best practices for secure and efficient data exchange, and a passion for building exceptional e-commerce experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and custom features for our Shopify Plus platform.
- Develop and manage integrations between Shopify and various internal/external systems (ERP, CRM, OMS, payment gateways, marketing tools) using RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks.
- Implement and optimize Shopify API calls to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards.
- Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver solutions.
- Perform code reviews, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Ensure security, scalability, and performance of all backend systems.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest Shopify updates, e-commerce trends, and backend technologies.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Backend Developer, with significant experience in Shopify development.
- Proficiency with Shopify APIs (Admin API, Storefront API) and extensive experience with custom app development.
- Strong experience with Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or a similar backend framework.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API principles and architecture, as well as GraphQL.
- Experience with database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Proficiency with version control systems, especially Git.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Shopify Plus and its advanced features.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
- Experience with microservices architecture.
- Understanding of front-end technologies (Liquid, JavaScript, React) to better collaborate with front-end teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
