Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Hospital Equipment Porter with a focus on Technical Asset Management to join our essential team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient movement, tracking, and maintenance of vital hospital equipment, directly supporting clinical staff and patient care. You will be responsible for transporting medical devices, beds, furniture, and other assets across the hospital site, as well as diligently logging movements and reporting equipment status to assist our technical asset management systems. This position requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe and effective healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport patients, medical equipment, laboratory samples, and other goods throughout the hospital.
  • Operate and manage equipment such as trolleys, beds, wheelchairs, and specialist medical devices.
  • Utilise digital asset tracking systems to log the movement, location, and status of all assigned equipment.
  • Perform basic visual checks on equipment for damage or malfunction and report findings promptly.
  • Assist with the setup and relocation of equipment for various departments and clinics.
  • Ensure equipment is clean, presentable, and readily available for clinical use.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, infection control policies, and manual handling procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, and colleagues.
  • Participate in regular inventory counts and audits of hospital assets.

  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good physical stamina for frequent walking, lifting, and pushing.
  • Basic computer literacy for logging and tracking equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or portering role.
  • Experience with asset tracking systems or inventory management.
  • Knowledge of basic medical equipment handling.
