Job Description

Davey Tree Expert Co. in Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador, is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a City Arborist Assistant / Tree Surgeon Trainee. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to start a rewarding career in arboriculture. You will work alongside experienced certified arborists, learning the techniques and safety protocols necessary for proper tree care, pruning, removal, and plant health services. Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified arborists and tree surgeons with various tree care operations, including pruning, removal, and planting.
- Learn and practice proper tree climbing techniques and aerial lift operation under supervision.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, and stump grinders.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures on job sites.
- Help with site cleanup, including raking, hauling brush, and debris removal.
- Participate in ongoing training and educational programs to develop arboricultural skills and knowledge.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support tree care operations.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of trees, plants, or horticulture.
- Experience with manual labor or outdoor work.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
