Job Description

Are you passionate about water safety and inspiring confidence in others? The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Swim Instructor Assistants for weekend shifts at our Strathcona location. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, work with a supportive team, and contribute to a healthier community. We offer a high hourly rate for those committed to weekend availability. As an assistant, you will support our certified Swim Instructors, ensure participant safety, and help create a fun and engaging learning environment for all ages and skill levels. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist certified Swim Instructors with lesson delivery for various age groups and skill levels.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in and around the pool area.
  • Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and provide positive reinforcement to learners.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe aquatic environment.
  • Communicate effectively with instructors, participants, and parents.
  • Prepare and manage equipment necessary for lessons.
  • Adhere to all YMCA safety protocols and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Strong swimming abilities and comfort in various water depths.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual, especially for weekend shifts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Patience and enthusiasm for working with children and adults.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or in an aquatic setting.
  • National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification.
  • Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certifications.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Assistant certification.
