Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Greenhouse Technology Assistant with a focus on skilled picking and care to join our innovative team in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This role is crucial for maintaining the health and productivity of our greenhouse crops, ensuring optimal growth conditions, and executing precise harvesting techniques. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and passionate about horticulture and agricultural technology, contributing directly to the quality and yield of our produce. This is an on-site, full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform precise picking and harvesting of greenhouse crops according to established quality standards and schedules.
- Monitor crop health, identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, and report findings to supervisors.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of greenhouse environmental control systems, including irrigation, ventilation, and lighting.
- Conduct routine plant care activities such as pruning, thinning, and training plants.
- Operate and maintain greenhouse equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards.
- Maintain accurate records of crop observations, harvesting data, and inventory.
- Contribute to a clean and organised greenhouse environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in horticulture or agricultural settings, particularly within a greenhouse environment.
- Demonstrated ability in skilled plant handling and precise picking techniques.
- Familiarity with basic greenhouse technology and environmental controls.
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills for crop health monitoring.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of health and safety protocols in an agricultural setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or a related field.
- Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
- Forklift operator certification (desirable for moving supplies within the facility).
- Knowledge of hydroponic or other advanced growing systems.
- Proficiency in data recording and basic computer usage for inventory management.
