Job Description
Join the enthusiastic team at Joliet Park District as a Part-time After-School Club Playworker, with a specific focus on our engaging weekend events. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children aged 5-12 during after-school hours and designated weekend events.
- Plan, organize, and lead a diverse range of age-appropriate recreational activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and educational pursuits.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere where all children feel valued, encouraged, and can actively participate.
- Assist with snack distribution, maintain cleanliness, and perform light organizational duties within the club area.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding child progress, daily activities, and any incidents, as directed by the Club Coordinator.
- Adhere strictly to all Joliet Park District policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and behavioral guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with other playworkers and staff members to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of all programs and events.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and empathetically with children aged 5-12.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Proven ability to lead, engage, and manage groups of children in various activities.
- Patience, creativity, adaptability, and a consistently positive attitude.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain certification upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (at least one year) in a childcare, after-school program, summer camp, or similar recreational setting.
- Relevant certifications or coursework in child development, early childhood education, recreation, or a related field.
- Knowledge of a wide array of age-appropriate games, crafts, and activities suitable for a diverse group of children.
- Experience working with children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
