Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our essential team as Medical Center Porters. In this vital role, you will be crucial to the smooth operation of our hospital, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies throughout our facilities, all while upholding the highest NHS standards. This position requires physical fitness, a strong sense of responsibility, and a deep commitment to patient care. You will work within a busy and dynamic environment, directly contributing to the well-being of our patients and supporting clinical staff across various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those with mobility issues, by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, to various departments within the hospital, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, pharmacy items, and confidential documents promptly and securely between locations.
  • Assist with the delivery and collection of linen, waste, and catering supplies, maintaining hygiene standards.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, ensuring all equipment is kept in good working order and stored appropriately.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, and all levels of staff members, providing clear information when needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, manual handling guidelines, and hospital policies, including rigorous infection control protocols.
  • Respond efficiently to urgent requests and emergencies, following established procedures to support clinical teams.
  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patients during transport, demonstrating empathy and understanding.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and repeatedly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
