Job Description

Chevron is seeking an experienced and dedicated Petroleum Chemist to join our dynamic team in Wesley Chapel, FL. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of our petroleum products and processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced chemical analyses, interpreting data, and providing critical insights to support our exploration, production, and refining operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex chemical analyses on crude oil, natural gas, refined products, and various process samples using a range of analytical techniques (e.g., GC, GC-MS, ICP-OES, FTIR, XRF).
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Interpret analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to engineers, geoscientists, and management.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality control standards (e.g., ASTM, API), and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and support ongoing projects.
  • Contribute to research and development initiatives for new product formulations or process improvements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior chemists and technicians.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a petroleum or industrial chemical laboratory.
  • Proficiency with various analytical instruments, including Gas Chromatography (GC), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Spectroscopy techniques.
  • Strong understanding of petroleum product specifications and testing standards (e.g., ASTM D series).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or Petroleum Chemistry.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and data analysis software.
  • Prior experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations pertinent to the oil and gas industry.
