Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospice Porter to join our vital support team in Belfast. In this crucial role, you will contribute significantly to the smooth running of our hospice environment, ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients, visitors, and staff. This position is ideal for someone who is reliable, empathetic, and possesses a strong work ethic, keen to make a tangible difference in a caring healthcare setting. As a Hospice Porter, you will be an integral part of our commitment to providing dignity and comfort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and areas within the hospice using appropriate equipment.
  • Assist with the movement of equipment, medical supplies, and specimens throughout the facility.
  • Deliver and collect patient meals, ensuring proper hygiene and timely distribution.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in communal areas, corridors, and patient rooms, as directed.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing away equipment for special events or activities.
  • Provide respectful and compassionate assistance to patients and visitors, responding to their needs sensitively.
  • Ensure the secure and timely delivery of internal mail and confidential documents.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and hospice guidelines.
  • Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or concerns promptly to the appropriate department.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospice environment.
  • Knowledge of basic manual handling techniques and patient transport protocols.
