Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Oncology Research Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Lake Nona. In this crucial role, you will contribute to the discovery and development of novel small molecules targeting various cancers. You will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and characterizing new chemical entities, as well as developing and optimizing synthetic routes. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute multi-step organic syntheses of novel small molecules for oncology targets.
  • Develop and optimize efficient synthetic routes to prepare target compounds.
  • Purify and characterize synthesized compounds using standard analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, etc.).
  • Analyze and interpret analytical data to confirm compound identity and purity.
  • Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and other scientists in a team-oriented environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, data, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Present research findings effectively in internal team meetings and to broader scientific audiences.
  • Stay current with scientific literature and new technologies in synthetic organic chemistry and oncology.
  • Contribute to the preparation of patent applications and scientific publications.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with 3+ years of post-doctoral or industry experience, OR M.S. with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-step organic synthesis, reaction mechanism, and retrosynthetic analysis.
  • Proficiency in purification techniques (e.g., column chromatography, recrystallization) and analytical methods (e.g., NMR, MS, HPLC).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot synthetic challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in drug discovery and development, particularly in an oncology therapeutic area.
  • Familiarity with computational chemistry tools for compound design and property prediction.
  • Knowledge of ADMET principles and their application in lead optimization.
  • Track record of scientific contributions (publications, presentations, patents).
