Job Description

The London Fire Brigade is inviting dedicated individuals to join our Public Sector Academy Training programme as Trainee Firefighters in Croydon. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with no prior firefighting experience, providing comprehensive training to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and physical fitness required to become a competent and valued operational firefighter. You will undergo rigorous training at our state-of-the-art academy, covering all aspects of fire suppression, rescue techniques, first aid, and community safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete all modules of the comprehensive Trainee Firefighter academy training program.
  • Actively participate in physical fitness training to meet and maintain operational standards.
  • Learn and apply fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials incident response techniques.
  • Understand and adhere to all health and safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Develop skills in using and maintaining firefighting equipment and vehicles.
  • Engage in community safety initiatives and educational programs.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication and collaboration.
  • Uphold the values and professionalism of the London Fire Brigade.

Required Skills

  • Aged 18 or over at the start of training.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to pass fitness assessments.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm approach under pressure.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to public service and community safety.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Full UK driving license (or commitment to obtain before operational deployment).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a role requiring teamwork or physical activity.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Evidence of community involvement or volunteer work.
  • Understanding of the diverse communities within London.
