Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Key Clerk & Porter with a strong focus on high-level security to join our Facilities Management team. This critical role involves managing access control, maintaining key integrity, and providing essential porterage services across various university buildings. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of our premises, requiring a meticulous approach to security protocols and a proactive attitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate records of all keys, access cards, and security devices for various university buildings.
- Issue and retrieve keys/access cards to authorised personnel, ensuring strict adherence to established security procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of key safes and access control systems to verify integrity and report discrepancies.
- Perform general porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries across university sites as required.
- Monitor CCTV systems and alarms, responding to security incidents and emergencies in accordance with university protocols.
- Provide clear and concise communication to staff, students, and visitors regarding access and security policies.
- Assist with emergency evacuations and provide first response support during incidents, liaising with emergency services.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and secure lodge or reception area.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a security-focused role or facilities support.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly with record-keeping.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional demeanour.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for record management and communication.
- Physical fitness to perform porterage duties and lift moderate weights.
- A solid understanding of security principles and access control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding license (or willingness to obtain one).
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience working within a large institutional or educational environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to facilities management.
