Job Description

Are you passionate about music and meticulous about data? Universal Music Group is seeking a dedicated Music Metadata Specialist with a focus on Digital Archiving to join our innovative team. In this 100% remote role, you will play a critical part in maintaining the integrity and discoverability of our vast digital music catalog. This position involves managing, enriching, and ensuring the accuracy of metadata across various platforms, contributing directly to the digital preservation and accessibility of our iconic music assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately input, update, and maintain comprehensive metadata for music releases, tracks, and artists across internal and external digital platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to established metadata standards, naming conventions, and industry best practices (e.g., DDEX, GRid, ISRC, ISWC).
  • Perform quality control checks on existing metadata to identify and correct discrepancies, errors, or missing information.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including A&R, marketing, legal, and content operations, to resolve metadata-related issues.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of metadata management processes and tools.
  • Assist in digital archive projects, including cataloging historical assets and ensuring their long-term preservation and accessibility.
  • Research and verify complex metadata information from various sources to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide support and training on metadata best practices to other team members as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in metadata management, preferably within the music or entertainment industry.
  • Strong understanding of music metadata standards and digital asset management principles.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Proficiency with various content management systems (CMS) and digital audio workstations (DAW).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Systems, Music Business, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with database management concepts and SQL.
  • Experience with archival practices and digital preservation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights pertaining to music.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
