Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator with strong expertise in Oracle and SQL Server to join our dynamic IT team. This role is crucial for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of our critical database systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of our databases, from design and implementation to maintenance, tuning, and troubleshooting. Relocation assistance is available for candidates looking to move to the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Monitor database performance, implement tuning measures, and optimize queries for efficiency.
  • Perform regular database backups, recovery operations, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Manage database security, including user access, roles, and permissions.
  • Implement and maintain replication, clustering, and other high-availability solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex database issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for database automation, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with development teams on database design and schema changes.
  • Provide expert advice and support to internal teams on database-related matters.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator with Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Profound knowledge of Oracle database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server administration, T-SQL, and SSIS/SSRS.
  • Expertise in database backup, recovery, and high availability strategies (e.g., Data Guard, Always On Availability Groups).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for database automation.
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices and implementation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Experience with database version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of ITIL frameworks.
