Job Description
Lone Star Transportation is seeking a dedicated and experienced Heavy Haul Specialist to join our dynamic team in Tucson, Arizona. This pivotal role involves the expert planning, coordination, and execution of transporting oversize and overweight loads across various regions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of heavy haul logistics, permit acquisition, route surveying, and compliance with all federal and state regulations. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of critical cargo, working closely with drivers, clients, and regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate the safe and efficient transportation of oversize and overweight loads.
- Secure necessary permits from state and federal agencies for specialized freight movements, ensuring compliance.
- Conduct comprehensive route surveys to identify potential obstacles, hazards, and ensure viable transit paths.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatch, clients, and pilot car services to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor load progress in real-time and respond proactively to any logistical challenges or changes.
- Ensure strict compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Maintain detailed records of operations, permits, and communication for auditing purposes.
- Provide expert guidance on load securement best practices, equipment selection, and transportation methodologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience in heavy haul or specialized freight logistics coordination.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state permitting requirements for oversize/overweight loads, particularly for Arizona and surrounding states.
- Proven ability in route planning, risk assessment, and obstacle identification.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems (TMS) and relevant planning software.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience with CAD software for route planning or load modeling.
- Certifications in advanced load securement (e.g., WSTDA).
- Experience working with diverse types of heavy equipment and industrial components.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus due to regional operational needs.
