Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Hospital Pharmacy Technician to join our night shift team in a clinical support role. This position is vital to our mission, providing essential support to pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, with a focus on clinical tasks that enhance patient safety and outcomes. The successful candidate will play a critical role during night hours, ensuring the timely and accurate provision of pharmaceutical services while adhering to strict safety and regulatory guidelines. This clinical role involves more than just dispensing; it includes supporting medication reconciliation, patient-specific drug preparation, and contributing to the overall clinical efficiency of the pharmacy department, all while benefiting from a night shift differential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including sterile and non-sterile compounding.
  • Assist pharmacists in clinical tasks such as medication reconciliation, patient chart review for medication histories, and preparation of patient-specific doses.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems and other pharmacy technology.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Respond to urgent medication requests and assist in managing drug shortages during night shifts.
  • Accurately interpret and enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Perform daily unit inspections and medication area audits to ensure proper storage and expiration dating.

Required Skills

  • Current State of Kansas Pharmacy Technician registration.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification from PTCB or NHA.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and medication nomenclature.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work consistently scheduled night shifts.
  • Basic computer literacy and experience with pharmacy management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience with sterile compounding (IV preparation).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Prior experience in a clinical pharmacy support role.
  • Knowledge of drug formulary management and inventory control practices.
