Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Polymer Chemist to join our innovative startup-minded team at the Lubbock Advanced Materials R&D Center. This role is central to the development of novel polymeric materials with a strong focus on advanced material science applications. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of product development, from fundamental research and synthesis to characterization and application testing, working within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, synthesize, and characterize novel polymers and polymeric materials for specific performance targets.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate material properties, including mechanical, thermal, and chemical characteristics.
- Develop and optimize polymerization processes and material formulation methods.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, material scientists, and application specialists.
- Document research findings thoroughly, prepare technical reports, and present results.
- Stay current with scientific literature and industry trends in polymer chemistry and material science.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best laboratory practices.
Required Skills
- PhD or Master's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in polymer synthesis techniques (e.g., radical, condensation, coordination polymerization).
- Proficiency in polymer characterization techniques (e.g., GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, NMR, Rheology).
- Strong understanding of polymer structure-property relationships.
- Experience with laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD with 2+ years of industrial experience in polymer R&D.
- Experience with specialty polymers, high-performance materials, or sustainable polymers.
- Familiarity with statistical design of experiments (DOE).
- Knowledge of advanced material applications in areas such as adhesives, coatings, composites, or electronics.
- Experience with intellectual property development and patent applications.
