Job Description
Are you a 14-year-old with a passion for helping others, a desire to learn leadership skills, and a love for the outdoors? The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking enthusiastic and motivated 14 Year Old Teens to join our team as Camp Counselor Trainees with a specific focus on leadership development for our summer camp programs in Katy, TX. This is a unique opportunity for young individuals to gain hands-on experience in a supportive camp environment, learning directly from experienced counselors and staff. You will assist in daily camp activities, participate in leadership workshops, and contribute to creating a memorable and positive experience for younger campers. This role is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of youth leadership and camp operations, setting a strong foundation for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior counselors in supervising groups of younger campers during various activities.
- Participate actively in all leadership training sessions and workshops.
- Help facilitate games, crafts, and other recreational activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers under the guidance of lead staff.
- Support camp staff with set-up, clean-up, and organization of camp materials.
- Demonstrate positive role modeling and embody the YMCA's core values (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility).
- Engage with campers, encouraging participation and fostering a fun, inclusive atmosphere.
- Learn and practice effective communication and problem-solving skills.
