Job Description

We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Pinterest Data Scientist with a strong quantitative analytics focus to join our dynamic team. While the title reflects a specific background, this role at Alphabet Inc. will involve applying similar quantitative rigor and insights derived from visual discovery platforms to our own vast and diverse datasets. You will be instrumental in understanding user behavior, optimizing content discovery, personalizing experiences, and measuring the impact of product changes across various Alphabet products that involve visual content and recommendation systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement advanced analytical frameworks to understand user engagement, content consumption patterns, and recommendation effectiveness on visual discovery platforms.
  • Develop and maintain robust A/B testing methodologies, analyze experiment results, and provide actionable recommendations for product iteration and optimization.
  • Build predictive models and segmentations to identify key user behaviors, potential churn risks, and opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, and designers to define key metrics, establish data logging requirements, and inform product strategy.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and insights clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing product roadmap and business decisions.
  • Conduct deep dives into data to uncover root causes of trends, anomalies, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of our data infrastructure and analytical tools to improve efficiency and scalability.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Scientist role with a strong quantitative analytics focus, preferably within a consumer-facing product company (e.g., social media, e-commerce, streaming, visual discovery platforms).
  • Expertise in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and their relevant data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, ggplot2).
  • Strong understanding of statistical inference, hypothesis testing, experimental design (A/B testing), and causal inference.
  • Experience with large datasets and distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and compelling narratives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience with visual search, image recognition, or recommendation systems.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, D3.js).
  • Experience with machine learning techniques for prediction and classification.
  • Understanding of user behavior on discovery-oriented platforms like Pinterest.
