Job Description
Join CVS Specialty Pharmacy as a Compounding Pharmacy Technician specializing in complex lab work. This critical role involves preparing customized medications, ensuring precise formulation and adherence to sterile and non-sterile compounding guidelines. You will work within a specialized laboratory setting, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care for unique therapeutic needs. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile and non-sterile compounded medications accurately and efficiently, following master formula worksheets and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Perform calculations necessary for compounding, including conversions and dilutions, ensuring correct dosages and concentrations.
- Operate and maintain specialized compounding equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and calibration.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all compounding activities, including ingredient lot numbers, beyond-use dates, and quality control checks.
- Adhere to all USP <797> and USP <795> guidelines, as well as state and federal regulations for pharmaceutical compounding.
- Conduct quality control checks on compounded preparations to ensure product integrity, sterility, and accuracy.
- Manage inventory of compounding ingredients and supplies, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage.
- Collaborate with pharmacists to resolve compounding issues, ensure patient safety, and optimize workflow.
- Assist with training and mentoring new compounding technicians as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant compounding laboratory environment.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or equivalent state licensure/registration.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least 1 year in a compounding specific role.
- Proficiency in sterile and non-sterile compounding techniques.
- Strong mathematical aptitude for dosage calculations and conversions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision in medication preparation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume specialty lab environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated compounding devices.
- Knowledge of advanced compounding methodologies for various dosage forms (e.g., creams, gels, injectables, suspensions).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems specific to compounding ingredients.
- Associate's degree or higher in a science-related field.
