Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Staff Nurse with a specialized focus in Sports Medicine to join our dynamic team at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work in a cutting-edge environment, providing direct patient care to individuals undergoing orthopedic procedures, particularly those related to sports injuries and rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background in orthopedics, a passion for sports medicine, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient outcomes. You will play a crucial role in patient education, pre-operative preparation, post-operative recovery, and ongoing support for athletes and active individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to orthopedic and sports medicine patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for adverse reactions and effectiveness.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, rehabilitation exercises, pain management, and injury prevention specific to sports medicine.
- Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute individualized care plans.
- Monitor patient progress, document observations, and communicate changes in patient condition to the medical team.
- Maintain a sterile environment and assist with wound care, cast application, and other orthopedic procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with best practices in orthopedic and sports medicine nursing.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Current RN license in the State of Illinois.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an orthopedic or surgical nursing setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Strong knowledge of orthopedic conditions, surgical procedures, and post-operative care, with a specific interest in sports medicine.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Orthopedic Nurse (ONC) certification.
- Experience specifically in a sports medicine clinic or unit.
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN).
