Job Description
Music & Arts, a leader in music instrument retail and education, is seeking a skilled and passionate Instrument Repair Specialist with a focus on woodwind and brass instruments to join our team in Lubbock, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of woodwind and brass instruments for students, educators, and professional musicians. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine love for music and instruments. Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic evaluations to identify instrument issues and determine appropriate repair strategies for woodwind and brass instruments.
- Execute a wide range of repairs, including dent removal, soldering, pad replacement, key fitting, valve work, and general maintenance.
- Tune and adjust instruments to optimal playability and intonation standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Manage repair intake and outgoing processes, including documenting work performed and parts used.
- Provide accurate repair estimates and effectively communicate with customers regarding repair timelines and costs.
- Collaborate with sales staff and educators to provide expert advice on instrument care and maintenance.
- Order and maintain an inventory of necessary repair parts and supplies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in woodwind instrument repair (e.g., flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboes, bassoons).
- Proven experience in brass instrument repair (e.g., trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and precision craftsmanship.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using specialized repair tools and equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized instrument repair program or equivalent apprentice training.
- Working knowledge of basic metallurgy and instrument acoustics.
- Experience with string or percussion instrument repair is a plus.
- Active participation in a musical ensemble or personal experience playing woodwind or brass instruments.
