Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Food & Ingredient Classifier to join our remote team. In this role, you will be instrumental in expanding and maintaining the accuracy of MyFitnessPal’s extensive food database. You will research, classify, and input detailed nutritional information for a wide variety of food items and ingredients, ensuring our users have access to precise data to support their health and fitness journeys. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a foundational understanding of nutrition, and a passion for health technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately research, classify, and input nutritional data for food items and ingredients into the MyFitnessPal database.
- Verify existing food entries for accuracy and completeness, making corrections as necessary.
- Analyze food labels, product packaging, and other reliable sources to extract relevant nutritional information (calories, macronutrients, micronutrients, etc.).
- Categorize food items appropriately within the MyFitnessPal taxonomy.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or missing information in food data.
- Collaborate with the content and product teams to improve data quality processes and user experience.
- Stay informed about general food trends, dietary guidelines, and nutritional science to ensure data relevance.
- Contribute to the development of classification guidelines and best practices.
Required Skills

- Basic understanding of nutrition principles and food composition.
- Proficiency in using online research tools and databases.
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, or a related field.
- Experience with food database management or data classification.
- Familiarity with MyFitnessPal or similar health and fitness applications.
- Knowledge of dietary guidelines and food labeling regulations (e.g., FDA).
