Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Digital Archivist with a strong focus on historical data to join our growing team. This is a crucial role responsible for the long-term preservation, organization, and accessibility of Pinterest’s historical digital assets and data. You will play a key role in developing and implementing archival strategies, ensuring the integrity and discoverability of our visual and textual legacy. This position requires a passion for history, digital preservation, and the unique challenges of archiving a dynamic, large-scale social media platform. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive digital archival policies, procedures, and workflows for historical Pinterest data.
  • Identify, appraise, select, acquire, and process digital historical records, ensuring authenticity and long-term access.
  • Manage and maintain digital asset management systems (DAMS) and archival repositories.
  • Create and manage metadata for historical collections, adhering to archival standards (e.g., DACS, EAD, PREMIS).
  • Conduct research and analysis on historical data sets to inform preservation strategies and support internal requests.
  • Collaborate with engineering, legal, and product teams to integrate archival practices into data lifecycles.
  • Monitor technological advancements in digital preservation and recommend appropriate tools and strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on archival best practices and system usage.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and ethical guidelines regarding data preservation and access.
  • Contribute to internal historical research projects and institutional memory initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, Information Science, or a related field with a concentration in archives.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in digital archives, data management, or digital preservation.
  • Strong understanding of archival theory, standards (e.g., OAIS, DACS), and best practices for born-digital materials.
  • Proficiency with digital asset management systems (DAMS) and electronic records management systems (ERMS).
  • Experience with metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, PREMIS) and controlled vocabularies.
  • Familiarity with various digital file formats and their preservation challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with large-scale, complex datasets, ideally in a tech or social media environment.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis and automation.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage solutions and distributed data architectures.
  • Experience in developing and implementing digital forensics techniques.
  • Demonstrated interest in the history of technology or internet culture.
  • Project management experience in an archival or data-focused setting.
