Job Description
We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Creative Arts Director to lead our artistic vision and programming. This pivotal leadership role requires a visionary individual with a profound passion for the arts, a deep understanding of non-profit operations, and a proven track record of curating engaging and impactful creative projects. The Creative Arts Director will be instrumental in shaping A.R.T.’s artistic direction, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the continued excellence and innovation of our offerings. This role demands exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and a commitment to advancing our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the artistic vision and programming strategy for A.R.T., aligning with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
- Oversee the selection, development, and production of new theatrical works, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of artistic professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Manage artistic budgets, ensuring responsible financial planning and resource allocation for all creative projects.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with artists, playwrights, directors, designers, and other creative partners.
- Represent A.R.T. as a key artistic voice in the local, national, and international arts communities.
- Collaborate with development and marketing teams to articulate the artistic vision and secure funding and audience engagement.
- Evaluate artistic outcomes and programming effectiveness, implementing continuous improvement strategies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a professional theatrical or performing arts organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute innovative artistic programming.
- Strong understanding of the non-profit arts landscape, including fundraising, governance, and community engagement.
- Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and budgets effectively.
- Extensive network within the theater and performing arts community.
- Bachelor's degree in Theater Arts, Fine Arts, Arts Management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (MFA or MA) in a relevant artistic or management discipline.
- Experience with diverse theatrical forms, cultural programming, and interdisciplinary arts projects.
- Track record of successful grant writing and donor cultivation.
- Familiarity with the Cambridge/Boston arts community and academic institutions.
