Job Description
Deloitte is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Virtual Tax Return Reviewer to join our Public Sector practice. In this fully remote role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of tax returns for our government and public sector clients. You will be responsible for reviewing a variety of tax filings, identifying potential issues, and collaborating with team members to resolve discrepancies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough and accurate reviews of various tax returns (e.g., corporate, partnership, non-profit, individual) prepared for public sector clients, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Identify and document potential errors, omissions, or discrepancies in tax returns and supporting documentation.
- Research complex tax issues and provide clear, concise recommendations for resolution.
- Collaborate with tax preparers and other team members to discuss findings, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate corrections.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with internal quality standards and client service level agreements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation, regulations, and industry best practices relevant to the public sector.
- Assist in the preparation of responses to tax authority inquiries and audits as needed.
- Utilize tax software and other technological tools effectively to streamline review processes.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax preparation or review, preferably with public sector or large corporate clients.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency with major tax preparation software (e.g., GoSystem, CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx).
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or actively pursuing.
- Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.
- Experience with government contracting and compliance.
- Familiarity with public sector accounting principles (GASB, FASAB).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
