Job Description
We are seeking a robust and resilient Septic Tank Digging Assistant to join our dedicated team in Chicago. This role is crucial to our operations, involving hands-on labor in sometimes challenging and odorous conditions. You will work closely with experienced technicians, assisting in the excavation, maintenance, and repair of septic systems. Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead technicians in locating, digging, and exposing septic tanks and drain fields.
- Operate various hand tools and light machinery (shovels, picks, small trenchers) as required for excavation.
- Handle and remove excavated soil and other materials from job sites.
- Support the installation, repair, and maintenance of septic system components.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of waste materials.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions accurately.
- Adhere to strict environmental and hygiene protocols given the nature of the work.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods, including lifting, bending, digging, and kneeling.
- Comfort working in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in odorous, dirty, and sometimes unpleasant environments.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and willingness to learn more.
- Excellent team player attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Prior experience in construction, landscaping, general labor, or similar physically demanding roles.
- Experience operating small excavation equipment (e.g., mini excavators, trenchers).
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
