Job Description
Are you passionate about pets and eager to start a career in pet grooming? Petco in West Covina is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Pet Grooming Offsider to join our team! This entry-level position offers comprehensive hands-on training in dog washing, basic grooming techniques, and animal handling. You’ll work closely with experienced groomers, learning the ins and outs of the trade in a supportive and fun environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a love for animals who are looking for a career path where they can grow and make a real difference in the lives of pets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist professional groomers with bathing, drying, and brushing dogs of various breeds and sizes.
- Learn proper techniques for handling and restraining pets safely and gently.
- Maintain a clean and organized grooming salon, including sanitizing tubs, tools, and work areas.
- Prepare pets for grooming appointments, including pre-brushing and de-shedding.
- Communicate effectively with pet parents, relaying information from groomers and assisting with check-in/check-out.
- Monitor pets for signs of stress or discomfort and report concerns to the groomer.
- Support the grooming team with various tasks to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Attend and actively participate in all provided training sessions.

- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with various dog breeds and temperaments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with animals (e.g., pet owner, volunteer at a shelter, pet sitter).
- Customer service experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
