Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and reliable independent contractors to serve as FedEx Ground Independent Drivers for casual weekend support in the Short Pump, Virginia area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking for flexible, part-time work to supplement their income, utilizing their own vehicle or operating under a contracted entity. You will be responsible for the safe and timely pickup and delivery of packages to residential and business customers on weekends, ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to FedEx Ground service standards. This role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a delivery vehicle to transport packages to designated locations on weekend routes.
- Efficiently load and unload packages, ensuring proper handling and care.
- Verify package counts and inspect packages for damage before and after delivery.
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers, representing FedEx Ground standards.
- Manage delivery manifest and maintain accurate records of pickups and deliveries.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the delivery vehicle (if owned by contractor).
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations personnel.
Required Skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry packages up to 150 lbs (with equipment).
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Reliable personal transportation or access to a suitable delivery vehicle (e.g., cargo van, box truck).
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in delivery driving or logistics.
- Familiarity with the Short Pump, Virginia and surrounding areas.
- Experience with handheld scanning devices and delivery software.
- Customer service experience.
