Job Description
UPS is seeking a skilled and dedicated Building Maintenance Technician with a strong focus on Electrical and HVAC systems to join our stable team in Springfield, IL. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning and safety of our facility’s infrastructure. This position requires hands-on expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, HVAC equipment, and general building components. You will play a vital role in preventing downtime, ensuring a comfortable working environment, and contributing to the overall operational efficiency of our logistics hub. This is a full-time, on-site position offering long-term stability and growth opportunities within a world-renowned company.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and control panels.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, refrigeration units, and associated controls.
- Conduct inspections and execute repairs on general building infrastructure, plumbing, and minor carpentry as needed.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of parts and supplies.
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff, contractors, and operations teams to ensure seamless facility operations.
- Implement energy conservation measures and contribute to sustainable practices within the facility.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting (e.g., wiring, circuits, motor controls).
- Demonstrated expertise in HVAC system diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance (e.g., refrigerant handling, compressor repair).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to electrical and mechanical work.
- Proficiency with various hand and power tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- HVAC certification (e.g., EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification).
- Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent electrical certification.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.
- Associate's degree or vocational training in Electrical Technology, HVAC, or a related field.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance software.
