Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled ICP-MS Chemist with a strong focus on metals analysis to join our dynamic team in Stamford, CT. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) instrumentation to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of various sample matrices for trace metals and other inorganic elements. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a solid understanding of analytical chemistry principles, and a commitment to producing accurate and reliable results in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ICP-MS instrumentation (e.g., Agilent, PerkinElmer) for routine metals analysis.
- Perform complex sample preparation techniques, including microwave digestion, acid digestion, and solvent extractions.
- Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for various metals analysis applications.
- Analyze samples according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines (e.g., EPA, USP, FDA).
- Interpret, evaluate, and report analytical data accurately and efficiently.
- Conduct quality control checks, instrument calibration, and ensure data integrity.
- Manage and maintain laboratory records, logbooks, and databases.
- Perform routine instrument calibration, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Participate in laboratory safety programs and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Assist in training junior chemists and laboratory technicians as needed.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ICP-MS operation and data interpretation.
- Strong knowledge of inorganic chemistry and trace metals analysis.
- Experience with various sample preparation techniques (e.g., acid digestion, microwave digestion).
- Familiarity with laboratory quality control procedures (e.g., LIMS, GLP, ISO 17025).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with ICP-OES and other elemental analysis techniques.
- Experience in an accredited contract testing laboratory (e.g., environmental, pharmaceutical, food).
- Knowledge of method validation and verification processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as EPA, USP, FDA guidelines.
