Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Impact Research Assistant to join our dynamic team in Shreveport, LA. This position offers a unique blend of office-based research, data analysis, and crucial field work to support environmental impact assessments and compliance projects. The successful candidate will contribute to various projects focused on ecological studies, remediation, permitting, and environmental monitoring across diverse industries. This role requires a strong attention to detail, a foundational understanding of environmental science principles, and the ability to work effectively in both office and outdoor settings, often in varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and desktop research on environmental regulations, ecological data, and project-specific information.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, permits, and other regulatory documents.
  • Collect environmental samples (soil, water, air, biological) using established protocols in the field.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Record field data accurately and meticulously, including GPS coordinates, site observations, and sample details.
  • Perform basic data analysis and contribute to data visualization for reports.
  • Support senior staff in project planning, logistics, and health & safety protocols.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Geology, or a related field.
  • 1 year of professional experience in an environmental consulting or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic understanding of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for mapping and data visualization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites.
  • Physical ability to perform field work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, traversing uneven terrain, and working in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with specific environmental sampling techniques (e.g., wetland delineation, wildlife surveys, air quality monitoring).
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana-specific environmental regulations and ecosystems.
  • Experience with data management and statistical analysis software.
