Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Wind Turbine Component Driver with an advanced logistics focus to join our dedicated team in Nampa, Idaho. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of oversized and high-value wind turbine components across designated routes. This position requires exceptional driving proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep understanding of complex logistics protocols for specialized cargo. You will play a vital role in the supply chain that powers sustainable energy, ensuring components arrive in perfect condition and on schedule to support wind farm construction and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy-haul vehicles for the transportation of wind turbine components (blades, tower sections, nacelles, etc.) with utmost care and precision.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections on vehicles and loads, ensuring compliance with all safety and DOT regulations.
- Secure loads meticulously using appropriate rigging and tie-down techniques for oversized and delicate cargo.
- Plan and execute routes efficiently, considering road restrictions, permits, weather conditions, and delivery schedules, often in coordination with a pilot car team.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper logs, vehicle records, and shipping documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics coordinators, site personnel, and other team members regarding load status, delays, and any issues encountered.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, safety protocols, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for heavy and oversized transport.
- Represent XPO Logistics professionally at all times, upholding our commitment to service excellence.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience driving heavy-haul or oversized loads.
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no serious violations.
- Proficient knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service, and safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to safely and efficiently maneuver large vehicles and trailers in various conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience transporting wind energy components or other high-value, oversized industrial equipment.
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems (TMS).
- Certification in advanced load securement techniques for specialized cargo.
- Mechanical aptitude for minor roadside repairs or troubleshooting.
