Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and compassionate Hospital Admitting Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role is a crucial blend of administrative efficiency and direct patient interaction, responsible for ensuring a smooth and supportive admission process for all patients entering our facility. The Admitting Nurse will coordinate with various departments, collect essential patient information, provide initial clinical assessments, and offer vital support to patients and their families during a critical time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the comprehensive patient admission process, from initial contact to placement.
  • Conduct thorough preliminary clinical assessments, including vital signs and basic health history, to identify immediate patient needs.
  • Accurately collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and medical information.
  • Liaise effectively with physicians, nursing staff, financial counselors, and bed management to optimize patient flow.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding admission procedures, hospital policies, and what to expect during their stay.
  • Ensure all necessary admission documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to regulatory and hospital standards.
  • Educate patients on their rights and responsibilities, and obtain necessary consents.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems proficiently for data entry and retrieval.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices and hospital policies.

Required Skills

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or emergency department setting.
  • Demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Experience in patient admissions, discharge planning, or case management.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Familiarity with medical billing and insurance verification processes.
