Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Systems Specialist (LIMS) to join our team in Mobile, Alabama. This role is perfect for a professional passionate about the intersection of Information Technology and Analytical Chemistry. You will be instrumental in managing, optimizing, and supporting our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other critical lab IT infrastructure. You will work closely with laboratory scientists, IT professionals, and external vendors to ensure seamless system functionality and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain LIMS (e.g., LabWare LIMS, STARLIMS) and associated laboratory IT systems.
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel to gather requirements, design solutions, and implement LIMS configurations to support diverse analytical workflows.
  • Develop and implement LIMS enhancements, including custom reports, calculations, interfaces, and integrations with instruments and other enterprise systems.
  • Provide expert technical support and comprehensive training to end-users on LIMS functionality, best practices, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure strict compliance with GxP, FDA regulations, and internal data integrity standards in all LIMS activities.
  • Participate actively in system validation, testing, and documentation efforts to meet regulatory and quality assurance requirements.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve LIMS-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
  • Stay abreast of emerging LIMS technology trends, industry best practices, and regulatory changes to recommend and implement continuous improvements.

Required Skills

  • Proven proficiency in LIMS administration, configuration, and support (e.g., LabWare LIMS, STARLIMS).
  • Strong understanding of laboratory processes, analytical techniques, and instrumentation in a chemical or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Experience with SQL databases, including query development and data manipulation.
  • Familiarity with GxP regulations (GLP, GMP) and principles of data integrity.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific or technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific or IT discipline.
  • Experience with other laboratory systems such as Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) or Chromatography Data Systems (CDS).
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, C#, or similar.
  • Project management experience in an IT or laboratory environment.
  • Relevant certifications in LIMS platforms, IT service management (ITIL), or quality systems.
