Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Analytical Chemist with a strong focus on environmental applications, specifically water and air quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting chemical analyses on environmental samples using a variety of advanced analytical techniques. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data used for environmental monitoring, compliance, and research. You will work within a state-of-the-art laboratory environment, contributing to projects that impact public health and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine chemical analyses of water, wastewater, soil, and air samples using techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, UV-Vis, and ion chromatography.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for emerging contaminants and challenging sample matrices.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated analytical instrumentation, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Interpret complex analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Adhere strictly to quality control and quality assurance protocols, including internal SOPs, ISO 17025 standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in laboratory safety programs and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in the training of junior chemists and technicians on analytical techniques and instrument operation.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in an analytical laboratory, preferably with an environmental focus.
  • Proficiency with advanced analytical instrumentation including GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles, method development, and validation.
  • Excellent data interpretation, statistical analysis, and report writing skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
  • Experience with air quality analysis (e.g., volatile organic compounds, particulate matter).
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., EPA methodologies, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act).
  • Experience with method development for novel or trace-level contaminants.
  • Certifications in specific analytical techniques or environmental testing.
