Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Automated Dispensing Machine Tech with a strong focus on hospital systems to join our team in Cicero, Illinois. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of automated medication dispensing systems (ADMs) throughout our hospital facilities. Your expertise will ensure the accurate and efficient distribution of medications, directly contributing to patient safety and operational excellence. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively with pharmacy, nursing, and IT teams to optimize system performance and resolve technical issues promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of automated dispensing machines (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to ADM hardware, software, and connectivity, escalating complex problems to senior IT or vendor support as needed.
  • Conduct inventory management within ADMs, including loading and unloading medications, performing cycle counts, and managing expired drugs.
  • Provide technical support and training to pharmacy staff and nursing personnel on the proper use and basic troubleshooting of ADMs.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and nursing leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains related to medication dispensing.
  • Maintain accurate records of ADM maintenance, repairs, and inventory activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards pertaining to medication management and dispensing.
  • Assist in the deployment and configuration of new ADM units or system upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with automated medication dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills for hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly concerning medication inventory.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with diverse healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in using basic computer applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related technical field (e.g., Biomedical Technology, IT, Pharmacy Technician).
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
  • Experience with network connectivity and basic IT support in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and medication safety practices.
