Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemical Process Engineer (Chemist) to join our dynamic team at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Louisville, KY. This role is crucial for optimizing our chemical processes, ensuring plant efficiency, product quality, and adherence to safety and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry and chemical engineering principles, with a hands-on approach to plant operations and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and troubleshoot chemical processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
- Monitor and analyze process data, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions or improvements.
- Develop and implement process control strategies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis for process deviations, equipment failures, and quality issues.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, maintenance, and quality teams to implement new technologies and process improvements.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations.
- Conduct hazard analyses and participate in process safety management (PSM) activities.
- Manage and execute capital projects related to process upgrades, expansions, or new equipment installations.
- Provide technical support and training to operations personnel.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
- Proven experience in chemical manufacturing plant operations.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles (mass and energy balances, fluid dynamics, heat transfer).
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Experience in specific chemical processes relevant to Dow's Louisville operations (e.g., polymers, specialty chemicals).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
