Job Description

Join our dedicated oncology team as a Chemotherapy Pharmacy Technician in an advanced clinical setting. This role is crucial in supporting our pharmacists and nurses in delivering precise and compassionate care to cancer patients. You will be responsible for the accurate and safe preparation of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and institutional policies. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of sterile compounding techniques, and a commitment to patient safety and quality care. You will operate within a state-of-the-art facility, contributing directly to positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare chemotherapy and other hazardous medications accurately and aseptically under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Verify calculations for medication dosages and ensure proper labeling.
  • Maintain sterile compounding environments and equipment according to USP <797> and USP <800> guidelines.
  • Manage inventory of chemotherapy drugs and related supplies, including ordering, receiving, and storage.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on prepared medications and compounding processes.
  • Document all preparation activities, including compounding logs and patient-specific records.
  • Assist pharmacists in various clinical and operational duties as needed.
  • Participate in departmental training and continuing education programs.
  • Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA.
  • State of Texas Pharmacy Technician registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile compounding, preferably with hazardous drugs (chemotherapy).
  • Proficient in aseptic technique and cleanroom operations.
  • Strong mathematical skills for dosage calculations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Advanced certification in sterile compounding or oncology pharmacy.
  • Experience with automated dispensing systems and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of USP <797> and USP <800> compliance specifically related to oncology.
