Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Control Systems (PLC) Engineer to join our dynamic team in Calgary, Alberta. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to advance their career with a global leader in industrial automation. The role involves designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining PLC-based control systems for various industrial applications. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, program, and test PLC (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric) and HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Develop and maintain control system architectures, network configurations, and software documentation.
  • Perform system integration, commissioning, and start-up activities at client sites.
  • Troubleshoot complex control system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and clients to define project scope and requirements.
  • Ensure all work adheres to industry standards, safety regulations, and quality procedures.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data for system design and upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA software development (e.g., FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition).
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
  • Experience with industrial networking principles and hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control narratives.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility.
  • Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
  • Experience in specific industries such as Oil & Gas, Mining, Water/Wastewater, or Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of DCS (Distributed Control Systems) platforms.
  • Certifications in specific PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
