Job Description

We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Creative Arts Director to lead our artistic vision and programming. This leadership role will be pivotal in shaping the cultural landscape of Sacramento by developing innovative arts initiatives, overseeing community engagement, and ensuring the successful execution of our diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of various art forms, exceptional leadership qualities, and a proven track record in non-profit arts management. You will work closely with our executive team, local artists, cultural organizations, and community stakeholders to deliver impactful and inclusive artistic experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive artistic vision and programming strategy aligned with SMAC's mission and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of all artistic programs, including public art projects, grants, and educational initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of creative professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with artists, cultural organizations, community leaders, and funding partners.
  • Manage program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to grant guidelines.
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships to expand artistic reach and impact.
  • Represent SMAC at community events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings, advocating for the importance of arts and culture.
  • Ensure all programs reflect a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, serving the broad Sacramento community.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in the non-profit arts sector.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in arts administration or creative leadership roles within a non-profit setting.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing complex artistic programs and projects.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, budget development, and grant administration.
  • Excellent leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and standard office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with public art commissioning and collection management.
  • Knowledge of the Sacramento arts and cultural landscape.
  • Experience in fundraising and donor cultivation.
