Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Specialized Heavy Haul Escort Driver (Pilot Car) to join our dynamic team. This critical role involves safely escorting oversized and overweight loads across various routes, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a pilot vehicle, providing clear communication, and maintaining constant vigilance to guarantee the safe transport of specialized cargo. This position requires extensive travel and a flexible schedule, with all travel expenses covered. Key Responsibilities

• Operate a pilot car to safely escort oversized and overweight loads.
• Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, state-specific permits, and company policies.
• Communicate effectively with heavy haul drivers, clients, and local authorities using two-way radio and other communication devices.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the pilot vehicle and associated equipment.
• Set up warning signs, flags, and other safety equipment as required.
• Identify and mitigate potential hazards along the route, including low bridges, narrow roads, and construction zones.
• Maintain accurate logs, vehicle records, and travel documentation.
• Represent J.B. Hunt professionally at all times.
• Adapt to changing schedules and travel requirements, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Skills

• Valid Class C (or equivalent) Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a commercial driver, preferably in logistics or transportation.
• Excellent understanding of DOT regulations and heavy haul permit requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional defensive driving skills and situational awareness.
• Ability to read maps and GPS directions accurately.
• Mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Flexibility to travel extensively, often for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience specifically as a pilot car driver for oversized loads.
• Certification in pilot/escort vehicle operation (e.g., specific state certifications).
• Basic knowledge of commercial vehicle weight and dimension laws.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
