Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Educational Paleontology Outreach Specialist to join our team, with a primary focus on developing and delivering engaging school programs. This role is crucial for inspiring K-12 students with the wonders of paleontology, fostering scientific curiosity, and promoting an understanding of Earth’s ancient past. The specialist will design hands-on activities, presentations, and workshops that align with educational standards and bring the excitement of paleontological discovery directly to classrooms and campus visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative paleontological outreach programs and curricula specifically tailored for K-12 students.
- Deliver interactive presentations, workshops, and hands-on activities at schools, community events, and on-campus.
- Collaborate with educators, faculty members, and museum professionals to ensure program content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with educational goals.
- Manage and maintain a collection of paleontological specimens, models, and educational resources.
- Train and supervise student volunteers or interns assisting with outreach activities.
- Promote programs to local schools and educational institutions, managing scheduling and logistics.
- Collect feedback and data to assess program effectiveness and make continuous improvements.
- Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts to support outreach initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of paleontology, geology, and evolutionary biology.
- Demonstrated experience in informal science education, teaching, or public outreach, particularly with K-12 audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and engagingly.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering interactive educational content.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Science Education, or a related field.
- Prior experience working in a museum, science center, or university outreach program.
- Experience with curriculum development and alignment to state or national science standards.
- Familiarity with digital educational tools and platforms.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various school and community locations.
