Job Description
Join Interior Health Authority as an Epidemiology & Biostatistics Intern and contribute to meaningful public health initiatives in the beautiful Kootenay region. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world public health challenges, working alongside experienced epidemiologists and biostatisticians. You will gain hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting, directly supporting our efforts to monitor disease trends, evaluate health programs, and inform public health policy. This role is ideal for students passionate about public health, data science, and making a tangible impact on community well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, cleaning, and management of public health data from various sources.
- Perform statistical analyses using appropriate software (e.g., R, SAS, Python, Stata) under supervision.
- Contribute to the development of epidemiological reports, presentations, and dashboards.
- Support the evaluation of public health programs and interventions.
- Participate in literature reviews and synthesize evidence for public health recommendations.
- Collaborate with public health professionals on ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Maintain data confidentiality and adhere to ethical research practices.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, Python for data analysis).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in public health and population-level data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with large datasets or health-related data.
- Familiarity with GIS software or data visualization tools.
- Understanding of public health surveillance methods.
- Experience with data management systems or electronic health records.
