Job Description

Embark on an exciting and rewarding career as a Freight Train Conductor Trainee with Pacific National. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and successfully complete all modules of the paid conductor training academy.
  • Learn and apply extensive knowledge of rail operating rules, safety procedures, and signals.
  • Assist in the coupling and uncoupling of rail cars and locomotives.
  • Perform pre-departure inspections of trains and equipment.
  • Monitor track conditions and observe signals and wayside indicators.
  • Communicate effectively with other crew members, control centers, and ground personnel.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and operational guidelines to prevent incidents.
  • Prepare accurate reports related to train movements, delays, and incidents.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness and critical thinking in a dynamic environment.
  • Travel extensively across various routes as part of the operational team.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to strict procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties including climbing, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Australian driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening and comprehensive medical assessment.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, and to travel for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a heavy vehicle or industrial operational environment.
  • A mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry.
