Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lubricants Specialist Chemist to join our automotive sector team in Santa Monica, CA. In this stable role, you will be instrumental in the research, development, and optimization of cutting-edge lubricant formulations for a wide range of automotive applications. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the formulation and development of new automotive lubricants, including engine oils, transmission fluids, and gear oils.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and analysis of lubricant samples using advanced analytical techniques to assess performance characteristics.
  • Interpret test data, generate comprehensive reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Provide advanced technical support to manufacturing, sales, and marketing teams regarding product specifications and applications.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscapes to inform product development strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with raw material suppliers to evaluate new additives and base oils for inclusion in formulations.
  • Ensure all research and development activities adhere strictly to safety protocols, quality assurance standards, and intellectual property guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in lubricant formulation and testing within the automotive sector.
  • Strong background in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, or materials science.
  • Proficiency in lubricant formulation and testing methodologies (e.g., ASTM, API, ACEA).
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as FTIR, GC-MS, ICP, TBN/TAN, viscometry.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to scientific research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with intellectual property processes and patent applications.
  • Familiarity with tribology principles and lubrication mechanisms.
  • Project management experience in an industrial research and development setting.
