Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Geriatric Music Program Lead to design, implement, and oversee music therapy and recreational music programs within our senior care facility in Cleveland. This flexible role is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for our residents through the power of music. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating engaging activities, managing program schedules, supervising volunteers, and assessing program effectiveness. This position requires a deep understanding of geriatric care, strong musical abilities, and a compassionate approach to working with older adults, including those with cognitive impairments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate a diverse range of music programs tailored to the needs and preferences of older adults, including individual and group sessions.
  • Assess residents' musical interests and abilities to create personalized and effective therapeutic interventions.
  • Train and supervise volunteers and other staff involved in music program delivery.
  • Manage program schedules, resources, and budgets effectively.
  • Collaborate with other activity coordinators, care staff, and families to integrate music into residents' overall care plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation, progress, and program outcomes.
  • Ensure all programs comply with facility policies, safety regulations, and therapeutic best practices.
  • Stay current with best practices in music therapy and geriatric care.
  • Adapt program content and delivery methods for residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with older adults, preferably in a senior care setting.
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument (e.g., piano, guitar, voice).
  • Strong understanding of the therapeutic benefits of music for seniors, including those with dementia and other cognitive impairments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement engaging group and individual activities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with the elderly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC).
  • Experience with program evaluation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with various musical genres and cultural music traditions.
  • Experience in volunteer management or supervision.
